If you have seen the show, Downton Abbey, there was a little scene where Atticus Aldridge, played by Matt Barber, visited Lady Rose McClare, played by Lily James at her volunteer work at a church. She is helping refugee Russian aristocrats fleeing the Russian Revolution. One of the men, who would turn out important, was told that Aldridge's family was of Russian descent. When the aristocrat heard when the family left, in the 1850s, he said the family was not Russian. They were, but not to the government's wish, as they were Jewish. They were run out because of what was known as the pogroms, the same as in Poland and Ukraine.
Russian Killing
The Jews were constantly under attack by the Russians, trying to take all they had, including their lives. They were not as sadistic as the Germans, but not far off. It became ingrained in their culture, to the point they considered the Jews subhuman. The sad part is, that there were many Jews who were of Russian heritage that did great things, such as Golda Meir. There were pogroms several times, not just in the 1850s, so it showed a concerted effort. During the Communist control, the nation forced everyone to give up religion. If they didn't, they could be sent to reeducation camps, like Canada has now, sent to Siberia, or just killed.
Poland and Ukraine
While Poland and Ukraine had their own pogroms, the major one happened immediately after World War 1. There were 100,000 Jews that would be killed in both nations, though that was nothing new. It was the same throughout history, as the nations were in lock step with the Russians and the Catholic Church on this. The Church had sent Crusaders in the form of the Teutonic Knights, a militaristic monk order like the Templars, to remove all but those who believed as Catholics did. Some say that the main reason was the Jewish support of the Bolsheviks, but history shows differently.
The Jewish faith has endured violence and lies against it for centuries. What is said about the Israeli state is not any different from what was said about them by the Catholic Church, the Nazis, and the aristocrats of northern Slavic lands. Attacking them based on these lies is an interesting choice for supposedly educated people.
